Job Description

The Medical Laboratory Technician / Medical Laboratory Scientist performs specimen processing, testing, and reporting of test results in compliance with regulatory requirements and the goal of providing quality patient care. The position involves working in a laboratory that provides sub-specialties of service in a hospital setting, including chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, blood bank, microbiology, and clinical microscopy. The laboratory provides 24-hour coverage and rotates shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime.

Responsibilities

• Perform specimen processing and testing according to established protocols.
• Report test results accurately and in a timely manner.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and laboratory policies.
• Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities.
• Communicate effectively with medical staff regarding test results and any issues.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Medical Laboratory Technician: High school graduate or GED with required coursework and experience; certification from a recognized agency must be obtained within 18 months of hire.
• Medical Laboratory Scientist: Baccalaureate degree with required coursework in medical laboratory technology; certification from a recognized agency must be obtained within 18 months of hire.
• Experience: Minimum of 6 months documented bench experience for Technicians; minimum of 1 year approved clinical laboratory experience for Scientists.
