Pathology Assistant

TLC Nursing Associates, Inc. is seeking a meticulous and experienced Pathology Assistant to assist pathologists in the examination, dissection, and processing of surgical specimens and postmortem examinations. This role supports accurate diagnosis and efficient laboratory workflow in anatomic pathology.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform gross examination and dissection of surgical specimens according to established protocols.
  • Prepare tissue samples for histologic processing, including inking, measuring, and sectioning.
  • Assist pathologists during autopsies by preparing bodies, collecting specimens, and documenting findings.
  • Ensure proper specimen identification, labeling, and data entry in laboratory information systems.
  • Maintain instruments, supplies, and cleanliness in the grossing and autopsy areas.
  • Document findings and prepare preliminary pathology reports for review by pathologists.
  • Follow safety, biohazard, and infection control guidelines at all times.
  • Participate in quality control and assurance activities related to specimen handling and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program required.
  • Current certification or eligibility for certification as a Pathologists’ Assistant (PA) by the ASCP.
  • State licensure as required by applicable laws.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in surgical pathology or autopsy support preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of human anatomy, pathology terminology, and laboratory procedures.
  • Excellent organizational, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with precision and maintain confidentiality in a fast-paced environment.
