Responsibilities

  • Perform microbiology testing of water, raw materials, bulks and finished goods according to product specifications, Combe test methods and official compendia, and Combe SOPs.
  • Interpret testing results and initiate additional testing as needed to confirm or isolate issues, using professional judgment and following established procedures.
  • Conduct challenge testing and report challenge results as directed by corporate R&D.
  • Conduct and report plant environmental monitoring
  • Ensure that good laboratory practices and good documentation practices are followed in all micro work
  • Keep Quality management and plant management informed of micro issues that could impact production schedules, product release or GMP compliance.
  • Supervise the Micro Lab Technician(s)
  • Ordering and inventory control of non-blanket supply items.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Follow established Quality systems and policies
  • Follow established Safety systems and policies
  • Good attendance

Essential Functions

  • Legible handwriting
  • Must be able to lift at least 20# overhead
  • Good vision and color perception, ability to meet Combe standards
  • Ability to use both hands and arms (shoulders, elbows, wrists and hands).
  • Ability to stretch, reach, bend and stoop
  • Must be able to stand for sustained periods of time
  • Ability to work in all areas of the plant

Skills and Abilities

  • Understanding of algebra
  • Good organizational and verbal/written communication skills
  • Familiar with PCs, word processing and spreadsheets
  • Working knowledge of consumer product microbiology techniques according to FDA, CTFA, and other authoritative sources

Experience and Knowledge

  •  Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or related field
  • At least 5 years experience in consumer product QC microbiology (food, drug or cosmetic)
