Job Description
The Certified Medical Technician (CMT) is responsible for the medication administration of the assigned nursing unit in long-term care or skilled care, while also performing all essential job functions of a Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A). This position operates under the supervision and direction of a registered nurse and adheres to standard nursing procedures as well as facility policies for administering medication.
Responsibilities
- Administer medications by various routes, including oral, rectal, topical, inhalation, eye, or ear.
- Maintain the medication cart and ensure that storage areas are clean and secure.
- Perform counts of non-narcotic medications and coordinate with nursing staff for medication reorders.
- Take vital signs and promptly report any significant changes in resident conditions or vital signs to the Charge Nurse or Supervisor.
- Document medication administration on the Medication Administration Record (MAR) per facility policy and procedures.
- Provide assistance and care to residents, ensuring excellent patient support.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Certification as a Medical Technician (CMT) and background as a Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A) or LPN.
- Ability to work independently and display personal integrity.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with medical staff, nursing personnel, and residents.
