About Us

Monod Bio is a pioneer company in the design of de novo protein reagents for Life Sciences and Diagnostics. Our innovative design platform technology takes advantage of the most recent advances in deep learning computational protein engineering to create highly rapid and sensitive protein-based reagents and assays. Our visionary founding team and state-of-the-art technology and product development experience position Monod Bio at the forefront of molecular reporter, binder and functional protein innovation. We welcome exceptional individuals to join us in this journey.

About the Position – 20-25 hrs/week, flexible schedule

Monod Bio is looking for an intern in protein engineering and molecular biology to join our protein design team.

We are looking for a highly motivated detail-oriented individual in their 3rd/4th year of a Biochemistry (or related) degree, preferably with some prior wet lab experience in molecular biology and/or bacterial protein expression and purification. You will be working closely with one of our protein design scientists to test and optimize de novo protein binders and biosensors. This internship additionally offers exposure to innovative AI protein design technology and the environment of a biotechnology start-up.

What You Will Do

Our internship will offer students the opportunity to become proficient in many aspects of protein biochemistry, including:

  • Molecular cloning, bacterial transformation, and DNA
  • Protein expression/purification in coli systems, including Ni-NTA chromatography and size exclusion chromatography.
  • Protein characterization via biophysical techniques (SDS-PAGE, SEC-MALS, Circular Dichroism).
  • Functional binding studies using Biolayer Interferometry (BLI).
  • Organize and keep records of centralized lab materials, including plasmids and purified proteins.
  • General lab maintenance tasks, including: making buffers and reagents, washing and autoclaving glassware, lab waste disposal, inventory management, and lab supply orders.
  • Additional projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Legally authorized to work in the United
  • Pursuing, or having completed, a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, biophysics, biotechnology, or related
  • Previous internship or work experience in protein expression & purification, and/or molecular biology techniques (DNA work, PCR, cloning and plasmid purification).

What We Offer

  • Pay at $30 per hour
  • Paid sick leave in compliance with local and state
  • State-of-the-art lab and office on bus line and near coffee shops, restaurants, and South Lake Union
